La Mafia receives a double-platinum album from Sony Discos Inc. and a triple-platinum award from Sony Mexico.
By late 1991, La Mafia was prepared to draw upon their extensive Mexico touring experience and debut what was termed the first Tejano album ever to be released and promoted simultaneously in both Mexico and the United States. The bands’s incredible Mexico/ U.S. crossover success was further evident in the more that 900,000 units sold of their hit album, Estas Tocando Fuego. La Mafia’s sales performances got even greater after they signed with Sony Discos in 1991. Their sales jumped from 60,000 to 70,000 units per album prior to 1991, to several hundreds of thousands per album in subsequent years.
