Concert-goers Look No Further With La Mafia!

, ,

Anybody who doubts the endurance of Latino music giant La Mafia needed to look no further Concert-goers of all ages always arrive by the thousands for a glimpse of the Grammy Award winning group even if they are there to see another band. Many in the audience say they have been fans of La Mafia for years, if not decades. Immediately concert-goers identify themselves as “huge fans.”

For many fans, La Mafia has always been one of their favorite Tejano bands since they were kids. Sometimes it’s hard to be able to get tickets or even find seats for their shows. When the crew from radio station Magic 93.7, the concert’s sponsor, asked “how many of you guys have heard of La Mafia,” the place erupted in applause during one of their shows.

La Mafia, a group Billboard hails as “among the most versatile Latino bands,” gained some of its most acclaim with the 1991 album “Estas Tocando Fuego,” which sold nearly 1 million copies. Their 1993 album “Ahora y Siempre” went triple platinum. The group has won Grammy Awards for its 1996 album “Un Million De Rosas” and again for 1997’s “En Tus Manos.”

More recently, the group has won Latin Grammy Awards for its 2004 album “Para El Pueblo” and for 2006’s “Nuevamente.” Billboard has also named the group as one of the Top 10 Latino groups of the 1990s. But, judging from the crowd at their shows, La Mafia is still going strong.

La Mafia helped detonate the explosion of Tejano music that swept the country in the 80’s and early 90’s. The group notched 13 top 10s and four No. 1s, including “Me Estoy Enamorando,” which spent nine weeks at the top of the chart.

ME ESTOY ENAMORANDO

It’s almost impossible to overstate the impact and influence of La Mafia.

Oscar De La Rosa and Mando Lichtenberger Jr. founded the group in the early ’80s and honed in on a unique sound that combined traditional elements with the melodies and polish of pop. La Mafia became one of the first Mexican-American groups to tour throughout the U.S., Mexico, Central and South America. They’ve scored countless radio hits, won Grammys and were recognized by Billboard magazine as one of the top 25 Latin artists of the past 25 years.

The current lineup includes Oscar De La Rosa (lead vocalist), Mando Lichtenberger, Jr. (keyboards, accordion), David De La Garza (keyboards, vocals), Tim Ruiz (bass), Viktor Pacheco (guitar), Robbie Longoria (percussions, bajo sexto), Eduardo Torres (drums).
